Chapter Fourteen: We deserve a happy ending

I laid on my bed and stared into the wall.

I feel like I’m on a roller coaster.

My mind is racing.

And my heart is pounding violently in my chest.

But despite my inner turmoil, I managed to lay perfectly still.

Hearing Justin cry over my picture made me realize something.

Kung ano man yung sinabi ni Andrew na kasinungalingan noon, must be really convincing para paniwalaan to ni Justin.

In every lie, you need some proof to make it incontestable.

But what was it?

A video?

Tape recorder?

 Or perhaps a photo?

It must be one of those things.

These were the only solid facts I can think of.

If my hunch was right, this lie must be something between me and Andrew.

That Andrew is my ex-boyfriend.

Which is, if you ask me, a complete bullsh!t.

Aside from the fact na si Justin lang yung naging boyfriend ko nung college. Kahit noon pa, I hate Andrew’s guts. I hate him as much I hate pickles kaya imposible na maging ex ko to.

I shook my head and rolled onto my side.

I’m thinking way too much.

What really happened in the past is not important anyway.

What is more important now is how I can make things right.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard the door open.

I looked up at nakita ko si Justin na sinasara yung pintuan behind his back.

Paanong hindi ko nakita how his eyes glow every time he looks at me?

Lumakad to papalapit sakin at naupo sa gilid ko.

Justin tucked some loose strand of hair behind my ear. “Did my mom force you to eat something?” He asked, staring at my face with his gentle eyes.

I just stared back at him, heart pounding.

Justin’s eyes were full of raw emotions and love. How could I miss something as visible as this?

Because you’re too busy thinking about your own wounds.

Because you’re too busy thinking about yourself.

A huge lump formed in my throat.

I instantly felt guilty.

“Mine?”

I blinked twice. “Papatabain daw nya ko sa loob ng dalawang araw.” Mahinang sagot ko dito.

“That’s my mom for you.” Natatawa naman na sagot nito.

“I like her.” I looked straight into his eyes. “And so is Rachel.” Her confession cements my resolve.

“I know you do. And they like you too. ” He caressed my face. “I told you everything will be ok.” He added, smiling down at me.

I nodded my head and smiled back at him.

He looked around. “Did you like your room?”

Tumango ako dito. “Yes. Especially the colour.”

“Mine is just right next to yours.” He smiled suggestively and winked at me.

If only he knew the truth.

That I already went there.

“I think I love this room better.”

Justin laughed really hard and then he tapped the tip of my nose. “A man can dream.”

Bago pa ako makapagtanong, lumakad nato papunta don. “You need to see this, mine.” Hinawi nito yung kurtina sa magkabilang gilid. “You should see this sight.”

He made a quick glance over his shoulder. “You can see the garden from here. Aside from baking, mom likes gardening.”

Justin looked so happy and content. I couldn’t take my eyes off him.

I know that he’s saying something pero hindi nagre-register sa utak ko yung sinasabi nito.

As soon as I reached his back, I slipped my hand around his waist.

Justin went rigid and stiff in my arms.

He looked surprised and taken aback pero hindi to umalis mula sa pagkakayakap ko.

In fact, after a minute or two, masuyo din nitong niyakap yung mga braso ko na nakapulupot sa bewang nito.

We can really start over, right?

He spun around to face me pero nanatiling nakayakap sa bewang nito yung mga braso ko.

We stared into each other’s eyes in complete, peaceful silence.

“What’s wrong?” He broke the silence, cupping my face affectionately.

I rested my cheek against his palm and closed my eyes, savouring his heat.

I deserved this, right?

After all I went through. He went through. We went through.

We deserved this, right?

“Mine?”

I opened my eyes. “Nothing.” I replied, looking up at him.

We wasted so much time.

I wasted so much time.

I cupped his face.

Bago pa to makapagsalita. I leaned upward and pressed my lips against his.

Yeah, we can really start over.

When Justin moved away, I moaned in protest.

He kissed my neck and a chill shot through me. “Is this for real?” He asked, pressing his forehead against mine.

Instead of giving him a reply, hinalikan ko ulit yung mga labi nito.

“Mine.” He breathed and in one swift move, he lifted me onto the bed. His heartbeat pounded against mine.  “Tell me this is real.” He mumbled as his lips claimed mine with suppressed urgency.

He needed and wanted me as much as I did him.

“We are real.” I opened my mouth and allowed his kiss to deepen.

I deserved this.

We deserved this.

We deserve a happy ending.
