Chapter Eleven: Girlfriend

“Devon is here.” Sigrid said enthusiastically as she dragged me towards the door.

“Wait Sigrid.” I protested but Sigrid still dragged me to the front door, shoved my bag into my hands, pushed me outside and locked me out. “Enjoy your weekend, Mie.” She yelled on the other side.

Is she being serious about locking me out?

I just shook my head at her childishness and let out a sigh of resignation.

I chewed my lower lip and spun around.

I came face to face with Justin na halos mapunit na yung mga labi sa ginagawa nitong pag ngisi.

I shot him an icy look habang binabagsak ko sa paanan nito yung bag na hawak hawak ko.

Acting cold is just my defence mechanism to avoid further humiliation.

I told him point blank na wala akong balak sumama dito few days ago. But here I’am, kinakain yung salita ko.

“Excited with our weekend getaway?” He asked. I can hear the amusement in his voice.

I snorted.

I’m getting a bad feeling about this long weekend..

Everyone is acting so suspicious.

Especially Rei and Robbie!

There’s really something off about them.

Aside from the fact na wala man lang akong narinig na argumento mula sa kanila nang sinabi ni Sigrid na dapat akong sumama kay Justin. My gut feeling is telling me na yon din talaga yung gusto nilang mangyari.

And my instinct rarely fails me.

I snapped out of my reverie when Justin picked up my bag and placed it in the back seat.

Pinagbuksan muna ako nito ng pintuan at kinindatan bago to lumibot sa kabilang side. Justin looked like a giddy little kid with his goofy smile as he climbed into the driver’s seat.

I, on the other hand, tried to ignore him as I settled on the passenger seat.

But Justin’s happy mood didn’t even waver. His grin even turned into a full smile. He even hummed a happy song as he drove off.

When he didn’t stop humming some random, stupid and annoying songs for thirty minutes, naiinis na binalingan ko nato. “Stop that annoying humming of yours before I beat the sh!t out of you.”

Justin took a quick glance at my direction. He held up his hand in mock surrender, his grin widened like Cheshire cat. “Relax, mine. I’m not even saying anything.”

I rolled my eyes and huffed. “Your face already—“ Natigil ako sa pagsasalita nang maramdaman ko na nag vibrate yung phone ko.

I just shook my head and took a deep breath.

I fished my phone out of my pocket and slid it open.

My eyebrows pulled together in confusion as soon as I read the text message.

You’re with JD now?

Robbie

Who’s JD?

Magre-reply na sana ako dito nang mag vibrate ulit yung phone ko, but this time I saw Rei’s name flashing across my phone screen.

I frowned even harder.

First, Robbie’s cryptic text message and now Rei’s restlessness.

What’s wrong with these two? Seriously!

I pressed the word answer, looking quite annoyed. “What do you want?”

Rei just laughed on the other line. “A simple hello would be nice.”

I rolled my eyes. “You’ve been pestering me for two days now. What do you want?”

Tinawanan lang ulit ako nito.

“Rei!” I reprimanded him.

“Are you with JD?”

JD?

I raised my eyebrow. “Again with the JD. Who the fvck is JD?”

“Justin Devon.”

I whipped my head at Justin’s direction, jaw dropped and eyes widened. “Since when he’s JD to you?” Gulat na tanong ko dito pero hindi ko inaalis yung pagkakatitig ko sa mukha ni Justin.

Rei cleared his throat. “Now?” He replied, sounding so unsure.

“What’s wrong with you and Robbie? JD really? What’s really going on Rei?”

I might be freaking out. But honestly, I’m more intrigued than shock right now.

Before I could hear his reply, Justin or apparently JD suddenly took my phone out of my hand.

“Hey!”

He held up my phone on the other side dahilan para matigilan ako.

Naiinis na tinitigan ko nalang to ng masama. Alam nito na hindi ko tatangkain hablutin yung phone ko dito dahil nag da-drive to.

“She’s with me Rei.” Sabi agad nito sa kabilang linya.

He listened for a few minutes before he replied, “Thanks man.”

I stared open mouthed at him.

First JD and now, thanks man?

What’s with the familiarity?

Without even glancing at my direction and in casual manner, binalik nito sakin yung phone ko.

Oh this brute is gonna get it!

I glared at him at pahablot kong kinuha yung phone ko sa kamay nito.

Sa kabila nang ginawa ko, nanatiling poker face yung mukha ni JD.

I crossed my arms against my chest. My eyes narrowed at him suspiciously. “You know what I don’t understand?”

“What?” He asked back, too casual for my liking.

I looked at him intently. “Why three of my closest friends were so eager for me to go with this weekend getaway. I can understand Sigrid. She likes you. But not Robbie and Rei.” I paused and waved my phone at him. “Or so I thought. Since when the three of you got so close and dandy?”

He glanced at me with feigned surprise. “Robbie? Rei? Really?”

I rolled my eyes. “What’s going on between the three of you?” I repeated and held my hand in the air. “And don’t you dare tell me another lie!” I warned him.

“I’m not lying.” He protested, eye twitching.

“Your guard was down.” I waved my hand in front of his face. “Your left eye twitched. That’s your mannerism every time you tell a lie.”

“I’m not lying.” He repeated, only this time, using his poker face.

I ignored him. “Cut the crap Justin. Robbie might be a little bit subtle but not Rei. He’s restless. And the most intriguing part is, they’re both calling you JD!”

I crooked my head at one side and stared at him with a puzzle expression across my face. “Last time they saw you, they wanted you dead, and now they’re both giving you a pet name. Can you believe that? JD? Really Justin?” I raised my eyebrow. “What happened?”

Justin shrugged his shoulders. “Maybe they finally realized that I’m a charming person?” He replied suggestively.

I huffed and grunted. “That’s the best lie you can come up with? Even a three years old can do better.” I said in tauntingly.

“Ouch.” He placed his hand against his chest, feigning that he is hurt.

“You know, you’re kind of smarter when we weren’t going out together.”

I froze for a moment and then blinked. My senses come to me, a second too late. “Sh!t!” I exclaimed, belatedly realizing my fatal mistake.

I’m sure my face was red as red bell pepper.

Really Armie?

Justin swerved to the side of the road and stopped the car abruptly. He shifted his body to face me and grinned cheekily, excitement is clear in his eyes. “So, we’re really together? It’s official now?”

I reluctantly meet his eyes at nang makita ko yung kislap sa mga mata nito. Gustong gusto ko nang iumpog yung ulo ko sa windshield.

Stupid mouth.

 “Girlfriend.” He whispered, deliberately teasing me.

I gritted my teeth in frustration.

Making excuses now, will only make me look more foolish.

“Just drive.” I mumbled and slouched down, embarrassed as hell.

Surprisingly, pinagpatuloy naman ni Justin yung pagda-drive nito. The ride went smoothly.  Or at least for the first three minutes.

I just ignored him for the rest of the ride as he continued to make some cheeky remarks tungkol sa pagkakadulas ko.

I will never hear the end of this.

This weekend is going to be a disaster!
