Chapter Three: I can kiss my peaceful life goodbye

I went straight to the kitchen and grabbed myself a drink. My mouth is still dry because of my encounter with Devon.

I’ve been so wrapped up in my own thoughts that I didn’t notice that there’s someone sitting at the bar counter kaya nagulat pa ako ng paglingon ko, yung mukha ni Sigrid yung nabungaran ko.

I touched my chest and huffed in annoyance. “What’s wrong with you? Why didn’t you say something! And what are you doing there, anyway?”

Sigrid shrugged her shoulders. “Not my fault, you’re too busy with your own world.” She went down. “I just want to know kung matibay ang bar counter natin.”

I rolled my eyes. “Another research for your novel? Why don’t you just find someone and bang him there?” I suggest casually.

Sigrid is a writer and my “girl” best friend. She has been my best friend ever since I can remember.

“That’s a good idea.” Sigrid paused and took her cup at the bar counter. “Why don’t you try it for me?” She added.

I smirked at her. “Oh, honey. I will but I’m afraid you’ll freak out. I don’t want to taint your virgin eyes and ears.” Natatawa na panunukso ko dito.

Sigrid shook her head. “Liar! You never put out.”

I laughed. “I can bend one of my rules for the sake of your research. Want me to call one of my toys, now?”

Sigrid peered at my face and pointed the stool next to her. “Only if you’ll tell me what’s keeping your twisted mind occupied?”

One of the disadvantages of having a best friend since forever? They can freaking read you like an open book.

I sighed and sat beside her, running my finger against the rim of my glass. “I saw him.” I whispered, not taking my eyes off my glass.

“Him?” Sigrid asked.

I looked at her. “Him. The devil! We made an oath not to speak his name.” I replied, trying to find humor in my not so humorous situation.

Sigrid’s eyes widened and her jaw dropped as she stared at me. “The devil incarnate? You mean HIM?” She parroted.

I nodded my head. “The one and only.”

“Shake! That fudging devil!”

I can’t help but chuckle despite my pathetic situation. “You know, you can swear. Say shit or fuck, come on Sigrid. It’s fucking free! You’re already in your mid 20’s for god’s sake. Taint your virgin mouth with bad words.” I paused and smirked at her. “Unless you want that to be tainted by something else.” I added, voice dripping with so much innuendo.

Sigrid glared at me. “What’s wrong with you—”

I cut her off. “That’s my line. Think your own, Ms. Virgin Writer.”

“Armie!!!”

“What?” I asked innocently.

Sigrid looked at me in disbelief. “How can you still act like this after what happened?”

I sighed and glanced away. “What do you want me to do? Cried my heart out?” I paused and looked back at her, using my straight face. “Or kill myself again?” I asked, feeling exhausted with this whole ordeal.

Sigrid gaped at me. “You wouldn’t dare!” She screamed as soon as she regained her composure.

I snorted. “Relax Sigrid. I’m just kidding. You can rest assured that it won’t happen again.”

“Geez, Armie! Be serious! What the hell happened?” Sigrid crossed her arms above her chest. “Or should I choke the information out of you?”

“I killed him! As my best friend, help me hide his body.” I said, suggestively.

Sigrid shrieked. “Oh my God!”

I started laughing hysterically. “Really Sigrid? You really think I would do that?”

She slapped my arm, looking so annoyed. “Bitch!”

“Thank you!” I replied, lowering my head in a teasing manner.

“I wanted to kill him myself kaya nakakapagtaka bang naniwala agad ako sayo. Imbyerna ka talagang Armie ka! And for the record, I’m thinking about homicide not murder!”

I stifled a laugh and placed my head against her shoulder. “He’s still the same Devil I used to know. A bastard and a jerk.” I mumbled.

Sigrid sighed. “What’s your plan? Kasi kung ako lang, I want you to stay away from that devil as far as you can.”

“I will stay away from him.” I replied in my “whatever” tone.

Sigrid peeked at my face. “Are you really going to stay away from him?” She asked in disbelief.

“That’s the smart thing to do.” I replied and shrugged my shoulders nonchalantly.

I stood up and took my glass. I went to the dishwasher and placed my glass inside.

“You’re acting so weird!” Sigrid exclaimed.

I frowned and glanced over my shoulder. “Weird?”

“This is so not you, Armie. I was waiting for you to say something between the lines of “I’ll bring him down” or “I’ll make him suffer till he dies.” kind of thing.”  She said, suspiciously.

I laughed.

See what I mean with she can read me like an open book?

The only solution to avoid this interrogation is to distract her.

And as they say, Love can be a total distraction!

I turned around, resting my back against the dishwasher. “How’s Trey?”

Sigrid’s face turned red. “That liar!” She hissed and glared at me. “I hate it when you do that!!” dahil sa kabila ng galit nito, alam nito yung binabalak kong gawin na pandi distract dito.

I chuckled. “Liar? He didn’t lie to you Sigrid. You assumed that he’s just a mere bartender.” I replied, giving her a pointed look.

“That’s the point! He let me assume he’s just a bartender when in fact, he’s a freaking billionaire!” Sigrid yelled in anger.

Another set of interrogation forgotten. Sometimes, I think, I can be a good criminal!

“You know these past few days, all you do is to mope around. Why don’t you—–” Naputol yung balak kong sabihin dito ng marinig ko yung doorbell sa front door.

Nagtatakang napatingin ako kay Sigrid. “You’re expecting someone?”

“None that I know.”

“Trey!” I exclaimed, looking so surprised and amused ng bumulaga samin yung mukha nito.

“You know, when I said you need to court her in the evening. I didn’t mean it to be this late.” I paused and waved my hand in the air. “It’s a good thing that you’re quite hot.”

“Armie!” Sigrid shrieked in embarrassment.

“What?” I asked and threw her a look that clearly stated “Are you blind?”

I turned around and looked back at Trey, who’s looking between me and Sigrid. Especially Sigrid. “Good evening?” Trey said, an amused smile playing on his lips.

I looked at my wristwatch and it’s one o’clock in the freaking morning. “It’s good morning now but please come in, hot stud.”

“Entertain him, Sigrid. I’m beat.”

“I just want to remind you guys to tone down your voice and Sigrid honey, you can do your research now. I think Trey will be a willing prey. A very hot prey and a very hard counter. You’ll be tainted, thoroughly.”

“You’ll pay for this!”

I turned to my side and saw my purse.

I took my phone out of my purse and started browsing my iTunes.

After a few minutes of nonsense browsing, a text message appears at my screen.

I lifted a brow nang makita ko yung pangalan ni Greg.

The color of my face drained when I read his message. “Justin is asking for your number. What I’m going to do?”

“Don’t give him my number!” I typed real fast and hit the send button.

I’m eating my nails, waiting for his damn reply.

I stopped when my phone beeps and I saw Greg’s name on the screen.

I opened it as fast as I could and I can’t help but groan nang mabasa ko yung message nito. “Sorry.”

Fuck!

I can kiss my peaceful life goodbye!
