Chapter Twenty: Life is a bitch and doesn’t always go my way
(BOOK 1 FINAL CHAPTER)
It’s been six days simula nang magpakita si Devon. I’m acting like my old self again.
I’m more calm and composed. I even turned on my mobile and plugged my line back into the port.
Messages and calls came nonstop na nagpasakit ng ulo ko.
I’m already finished talking to Robbie and Rei. They want an explanation but I’m still not ready to give them one. Kaya after a series of profanities and angry outburst, both of them finally gave up.
“Armie, you’re ready? Please tell me you changed your mind and you don’t want to leave anymore?” Sigrid’s voice pulled me back into reality.
I stood up. “Not a chance Sigrid. Where’s my key?” Natatawa at naiiling na sagot ko dito.
Sigrid sighed dramatically habang inaabot sakin yung susi ng kotse ko. She is so easy to read. Hiniram nito yung kotse ko kahit may sarili naman tong sasakyan. I’m pretty sure this was her another attempt to keep me from leaving.
I took my key and pinched her cheek. “Stop being so cute Sigrid.”
Sigrid pouted and threw me a pleading look.
“Not gonna happen Sigrid.” I grabbed my bag and walked out of the door.
Sigrid groaned. “Are you really sure about this?” Tanong nito habang sumusunod sakin.
I nodded my head in response.
Sigrid grabbed my arm kaya napahinto ako sa paglalakad papunta sa kotse ko. She looked straight into my eyes. “You know, about this whole Devon thingy. I think….” She trailed off.
So, he’s Devon now?
I raised my eyebrow, waiting for her to continue.
Sigrid sighed. “I think Andrew is involved with these—–“
I waved my hand to cut her off. “I’m not dumb Sigrid. I’m pretty sure Andrew did something. But so what?” I shrugged my shoulders in a nonchalant way and gave her a sombre smile. “Whatever crap he pulled or whatever lies he told. I don’t really give a sh!t! Devon believed his story and took his side.”
Sigrid’s expression turned even more serious.
I sighed exasperatedly. “What?”
“But you know you’ll never forget him even if you leave, right?”
I shook my head. “I’m not planning to and I’m not leaving because I want to forget him.”
She stared at my face, trying to analyse me.
I laughed bitterly and looked straight into her eyes. “I left for years but he’s still here.” Turo ko sa dib-dib ko. There’s no use denying it. I’m still in love with him.
I took a deep breath. “Sa tingin mo ba, leaving for 2 months will make any difference?”
After a few minutes, she let me go. “Then why are you in such a hurry to leave? You can wait for me, you know. I just need to talk to my editor, so I can go with you. I really want to go with you.”
I groaned inwardly.
But the problem is, I want to be alone.
Don’t get me wrong, Sigrid is a good company but I just want to get away from everyone and breathe.
Sigrid grabbed my shoulder bag. “I’m really worried Mie. You can’t just go on a road trip on your own. It’s not safe!”
I touched her arm and smiled warmly at her. “Stop worrying Sigrid. I’m a black belt. Kung sakali man, hindi ka sakin dapat mag worry, pity the fool who dares cross my path.” I laughed and flicked her forehead. “Besides, I have a pepper spray. Nothing can go wrong with a pepper spray.”
Sigrid rolled her eyes. “Do you really need to leave?” Ulit uli nito.
I placed my hand against her shoulder. “I just need some space to clear my head. I will be fine.” I paused. “Everything will be fine.” I whispered.
I’m trying to say the last line, more to myself.
Yes, everything will be fine.
Sigrid let out a sigh of resignation. “You will just leave for 2 months, yeah? You’ll come back, right?”
Nagpatuloy ako sa paglapit sa kotse ko. “Robbie’s wedding is in 2 months. You know, I will never ditch him. I’ll be back in 2 months. I promise.” I assured her.
Bago pa ako makasakay sa kotse ko. Pinigilan ulit ako nito. “Just be safe and call me if anything goes wrong.”
I smiled and nodded my head. “I will.” Pumasok na ako sa loob at umupo sa driver seat. Bago ko sinara yung pinto ng kotse ko, tumingin ulit ako dito. “Besides, what damage a two months can do?”
But of course, God had other plans.
