(E-001) NATHALIE: FULL STORY

On the thirteenth day of July, Nathalie was at the fast-food pick-up point location—currently waiting for a shuttle van that would take her to the office, when she saw a new face, probably a new co-worker. Nathalie has always been bubbly and has this attitude of approaching someone to initiate a conversation, but this time, she just remained silent and did not utter even a single word.

Another co-worker reached the pick-up point, Giselle, and while waiting for the shuttle van, she introduced herself to the new face. “Hi, you must be new here? I’m Giselle, and you are?”

“Kesha,” the girl meekly responded. The two talked about company rules and other things. Giselle is a Production Planner while Kesha is an IT Analyst.

Giselle was wondering why Nathalie didn’t even glance at them and just stepped away while immersing herself in her social media account. The latter wasn’t even opening her mouth to join into their conversation—far from the fact that Nathalie has always been the talkative one.

The shuttle van finally came and the three women boarded. Kesha took a seat at the back of Nathalie and the latter just became more uncomfortable than ever. She just closed her eyes and pretended to sleep as a nameless fear crept inside her.

Two days later, Kesha died. It was on the fifteenth of July when she met a road accident together with her husband—so terrible that it was even televised. Their car had been severely damaged and both of them tragically died on the spot. Nathalie didn’t know her personally, so she texted Giselle to confirm what she just watched over the news. She began typing on her cellular phone using her clammy and trembling fingers:

Hi, Giselle. I just want to ask if the one on the news was the new face who boarded our shuttle van two days ago? Was it Kesha?

Biting her fingernails, Nathalie couldn’t help her anxiety while waiting for Giselle’s reply. After a few minutes, her cellular phone beeped indicating that she received a text message:

Yes, you’re watching too? It’s just sad that she’s dead now. Life is really short but what happened to you, Nath? I have always known you as the chattiest one… but at that time, you just stepped away from us.

At first, Nathalie was silently praying that it might not be her new co-worker who happened to ride their shuttle van, but when she confirmed that it was certainly her, Nathalie couldn’t help but cry. She answered Giselle’s question about what was the true reason behind her silent treatment of the two women two days ago.

Nathalie actually saw a black thick fog or a mist covering Kesha’s body from neck to toe. It was a negative vibration—a premonition. Being a woman who used to foreshadow dreadful events ever since she was a child, Nathalie knew right there that something bad would happen to her. She just couldn’t pinpoint what exactly it would be. Since Nathalie wasn’t close to the new colleague, she set it aside and did not mention it to anybody.

“I’m sorry, Kesha…”

That was all she could say. For a week, a pang of unknown guilt had occupied Nathalie and that led her to apologize to Kesha every single night.

The couple who passed away left three kids and Kesha was even pregnant at that time. If only Nathalie knew that her premonition would lead to death, she could have at least saved her life. If only she warned Kesha, she could have saved those kids from living without their parents. It had been three years already but still, Nathalie couldn’t forget what happened. She just couldn’t.

Nathalie has a gift… rather, a curse. But if you were in Nathalie’s shoes, how would you tell Kesha to take care up to the utmost extent without causing her to panic—when she didn’t even know who was Nathalie in the first place?

If you were Nathalie, how could you tell people that you were seeing something peculiar in them that might harm them in the future? If even Nathalie… could miss the signs in her life that sometimes result in hurt or worse—total loss? It would never be easy. Everything had always been intricate from the very beginning as you would never have the power to change someone’s fate.

This is a true story and Nathalie was none other than the author herself.
