“So, about Ricky…”

Tinigil ko yung pagbabasa ko at tumingin sa kinakaupuan ni Embry. Inaayos ni Embry yung buhok nito na nililipad ng hangin. We’re in the campus ground, sitting in one of the benches.

Pinatong ko yung siko ko sa libro na nasa kandungan ko at nangalumbaba dito. “I already told you that he’s my ex, remember?” I reminded her.

Embry pouted. “Seriously. That’s not what I’m going to ask.”

I crooked my head. “Really.” I replied, feigning innocence.

Embry huffed. “Ok, you asked for this.” She paused and looked me straight in the eyes. “Why did you two break up?”

How can someone be nosy and cute at the same time? Only Embry can pull this off.

I smiled and shook my head at the thought. Pinagpatuloy ko nalang yung pagbabasa ko.

I decided to tell her the truth. “He never loved me. It was just a one sided relationship.” Baliwala na nagkibit ako ng balikat kahit nararamdaman ko pa rin yung kirot sa puso ko. “I know from the start, he’ll slip away.”

Liar Rain! You thought, he’ll fall for you, along the way!

“What??”

Natawa ako ng mapakla, hindi ko pa rin to sinusulyapan. Ayokong makita nito yung sakit sa mga mata ko. “He loved someone else. In every one sided relationship, someone is bound to end up hurt.” I gripped the book tighter. “Well in my case, alam mo na kung sino yung nasaktan. It was a dead ball from the very beginning.”

“You’re kidding me.” May diin na sagot nito.

Nagtataka na napatingin ako kay Embry dahil sa tono nito.

“Come on. That’s impossible! Sino ang hindi ma i-inlove sayo?” Nagtataka pa din at may diin na tanong nito.

“Ahmm, si Ricky?” Natatawa namang sagot ko dito.

Ngumuso to. “You’re just pulling my leg.”

Sinara ko na ng tuluyan yung libro na hawak ko. “Ano bang hindi kapani-paniwala sa sinabi ko?”

“Because you’re you.” She waved her hand in front of my face. “You’re like a freaking supermodel for god’s sake.”

I giggled at her reaction.

She’s really so cute!

I shook my head as my face turned serious. “He’s in love with my sister.”

Embry froze and her jaw dropped. “What the heck!”

I waved my hand in the air, para ipakita dito na baliwala na sakin yung nangyari. “That was a long time ago. I’m over it.” Another lies.

“But…But…Did Ricky and your sister hook up?” Embry slapped her mouth as soon as she asked. “No. No. No! Don’t answer that question! Sorry for being so nosy.”

I shrugged my shoulders at tumingin sa kawalan. A particular scene crossed my mind. “They went out.”

“They told you that? I didn’t know that Ricky is such a jerk!!” Gulat at may halong iritasyon na bulalas nito.

I looked at her direction and gave her a small smile. “He didn’t need to say it. I’m too perceptive for my own good.” Plus I saw them making out.

Nang makita ko yung galit sa mga mata nito. I forced a laugh. “It’s really ok Emz. It happened years ago. Besides, I’m the one who’s at fault. I asked him to be my boyfriend kahit alam kong yung kapatid ko yung mahal nito.”

I gulped the lump forming on my throat nang ma-recognized ko yung tingin na pinupukol ni Embry sakin.

Pity.

“I’m sorry.”

Oh how I hate that word!

But before I could open my mouth to respond, someone beat me to it. “Pixie!”

We both looked at our side.

Nakangiti na naglalakad si Adien papalapit samin habang nasa tabi nito si Ricky.

Talked about perfect timing. But not a perfect crowd.

I took a deep breath and looked at my wrist watch. Good thing, I also need to go. She’s probably on her way.

Binalik ko yung libro sa loob ng bag ko. Narinig ko yung ginawang batian nila Embry at Adien. And of course with a lot of kissing involved. Nang sa tingin ko tapos na sila sa nakakalanggam na eksena nila, I looked up.

Adien nodded his head in my direction. I nodded back.

Ricky is just staring at my face. I gave him a small smile.

Again, Ricky looks surprise. Masama ba na ngitian to? Surely, hindi nito iniisip na bitter pa ako sa nangyari noon, right?

But that’s the point. You’re still bitter.

I cleared my throat and looked away.

 “Let’s go babe. We need to meet your brother.” Sabi ni Embry habang tinitignan ng matalim si Ricky.

Napailing nalang ako sa ginawa ni Embry. Tumayo na din ako mula sa pagkakaupo ko.

“I’ll call you, yeah?” Baling sakin ni Emz.

I smiled and flicked her forehead. “Enjoy.”

Pinisil nito yung balikat ko bago to tumalikod kasunod si Ade na may sinabi muna kay Ricky.

“What was that?” Tanong ni Ricky nang makita nito yung ginawang pag irap ni Embry dito.

Sa tingin ko, mas tinatanong ni Ricky yung sarili nito kesa sakin base sa nakita kong reakyon nito pagkatapos nitong magsalita.

He totally froze on the spot when he noticed that I’m looking at him.

I chuckled. “I told her our history.” I looked him straight in the eyes. “Sorry, she’s quite persistent and I don’t want to lie.”

Tinitigan lang ako nito.

“Hindi ko alam na magiging ganon yung reaksyon niya. Give her some time, she’ll come around.” Kinuha ko yung iPhone ko sa back pocket at nag check ng message. “I mean, it was eons ago. Hindi ko ini-expect na ma a-apektuhan pa rin to kahit na tayo naka moved on na.” I added without looking at his direction.

“Are you?”

I looked up.

“Have you really moved on?”

Ngumiti ako dito kahit nararamdaman ko yung pagsikip ng dib-dib ko. “What do you think?”

Natigilan to.

I feign a laughter as I stared at him. “Come on, it was like four or five years ago Ricky.” It was three.

“It was three.” Ricky said exactly what’s on my mind.

 “Oh it’s just three? It seems so long ago.” I said with feigned surprise.

Nakita ko yung pagdilim ng mukha nito.

When I heard a beep, I looked down at my iPhone and read the message.

She’s here.

Kinuha ko yung shoulder bag ko sa bench at sinukbit sa balikat ko.

I looked up and tapped Ricky’s shoulder. I want to appear as casual as possible. Kahit sabihin pa na bolta-boltaheng kuryente yung naramdaman ko sa ginawa kong pagtapik sa balikat nito.

“I need to go. It was nice talking to you again, Ricky.” With that, I turned my back at him and let out a sigh of relief.

How long can I keep this I’m-already-move-on-attitude?

How long will it last?
